Paul Turner & Magnus Thorne are 29. 

Professionally at least. We started in the creative business 29 years ago. We haven't always been together. Paul started life at CDP doing mainly print and poster advertising. Magnus was already at McCann London when Paul was poached there. We were rivals for about five years, and between us we did most of the agencies showpiece TV work for the likes of Coke, Mastercard, Bacardi and Nescafe.

We joined forces to become group heads at the integrated network agency Rapp, where we brought our ideas and thinking to play in direct, digital and experiential, and spearheaded the agency's turnaround into a real creative shop.

On the back of winning Rapp a whole bunch of creative awards, including the network's first ever D&AD pencil, we were promoted to Creative Directors, and then two years later stepped up again when we were poached for the role of joint ECD's to lead the re-invention of the proudly independent Pulse Group.

The first year was spent transforming not just the creative reputation there, but the agency as a whole, turning it into a true ideas focused boutique outfit. Three years on, we'd won 10 new clients, had 8 projects shortlisted at the Best Awards and the IPM awards, and won a gold, four silvers and a bronze for the sort of work we'd got Pulse creating. It was time for something new. 

We joined Google and Oliver, their creative digital and design agency, to run the Google account as CD's. Six months later we were promoted into the main Oliver agency, to run a whole bunch of other accounts and help it keep growing. We bought Dare, then we overtook Karmarama for the No.1 spot as the biggest independent creative agency at almost 1000 strong, with clients like The AA, PepsiCo, Starbucks, Unilever, Virgin, Google, Adidas, BMW, Britvic, Barclaycard and The Guardian. 

We’re now up to 2500 people, and we are personally spearheading Oliver’s creative offering, which saw us ranked 3rd most nominated agency at the 2018 DMAs, behind only Ogilvy and Proximity. Again in 2019, we personally created 7 of the 8 shortlists for Oliver and collected awards for 4 different campaigns.
